Feast of St. Benedict the African

April 4, 2020

In 2018, in honor of the Feast Day of St. Benedict the African, the parish commissioned Dr. Kevin Johnson, associate professor of Music at Spelman College and director of the Spelman College Glee Club, to compose a special mass reflecting, a soulful style of African American musical arrangements that commemorate the season of Easter.

At the time, Fr. Jones said, “The Mass of St. Benedict reflects the parish’s commitment to unite the faithful of Englewood and strengthen the resolve of the community believing that change, justice and non-violence start in the Church and are led out by the Church.”
