MOSAIC Performs to Crowd-Filled Audience

April 7, 2019

SBA’s own Phillip Armstrong, as part of MOSAIC group, performed the St. Benedict the African original mass music.

As part of the Saint Benedict the African feast day celebration, which fell on a Thursday but was celebrated on the following Sunday, the nine singers of MOSAIC performed the musical pieces composed by Dr. Kevin Johnson. Dr. Johnson, the associate professor of music at Spelman College, performed the composition in April 2018 along with the Spelman glee club, which Dr. Johnson also directs. The MOSAIC group had been preparing this presentation since 2018 while also rehearsing for a separate performance held in February 2019. Mr. Armstrong nonetheless felt it was appropriate to perform this unique special composition for Saint Benedict the African, his home parish.

Happy #soulfulsaturday from @mosaic__soul! Here's a little throw back from earlier this year at @sbaparish performing "The Mass of St. Benedict" What an experience, performing original music from @spelmanglee Professor Dr. Kevin Phillip Johnson. This pieces is entitled "One Heart One Mind." Passage found in Acts 4:32-45 which states The Believers Share Their Possessions " All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. With great power the apostles continued to testify. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need" Mosaic exists to build community through the power of soul, gospel, & spiritual music, rooted in the rich soulful genres of the American sound. You can experience this in April of 2020!!!
